About The Doctor

Dr. G. Anbuganapathi is a distinguished practitioner and researcher in Siddha medicine and Yoga therapy, holding an M.Sc., Ph.D., ESMP., PG(Dip) VARMA, and TTC (Yoga). Born on September 15, 1950, in a small village nestled on the banks of the Thenpennai river in Thirukovilur taluk, Villupuram district, his journey into holistic health was shaped by a profound family legacy and an innate curiosity.

Early Life and Influences

Dr. Anbuganapathi's upbringing was steeped in traditional wisdom. His father, Mr. M. K. Govindaraju, a scholar of Tamil epics, instilled in him strong moral values, critical thinking, and a deep appreciation for righteous living through captivating nightly narratives of the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and other ancient texts. His mother, Mrs. Alamelu, with her exceptional memory, would lull him to sleep with recitations of Thirupugazh and the songs of the Eighteen Siddhars, sparking his lifelong interest in Siddha literature.

The practice of Siddha medicine was a cornerstone of his family and village. His grandfather and father were renowned for treating snake bites, while his uncle specialized in curing jaundice and chronic ulcers. Witnessing the efficacy of Siddha Vaithiyam in his community from a young age ignited Dr. Anbuganapathi's passion, leading him to identify and utilize medicinal herbs alongside his elders from childhood.

Academic and Professional Journey

Dr. Anbuganapathi's formal education began at Ramakrishna Padasalai, Konour (1955-1966). He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at Pachaiyappa’s College, Madras (1967-1972), and earned his Ph.D. from Madras University in 1987.

His academic career saw him join as a teaching faculty member in the Zoology department of Kandasamy Kandar College, Vellore, Namakkal district, in 1972. He rose through the ranks, eventually serving as the Principal of the college until his voluntary retirement in 2007. Following this, he was the Principal of Sekar Arts and Science College, Dharmapuri, from 2007 to 2009, and a syndicate member of Periyar University, Salem, for six years (2002-2007).

Master of Hatha Yoga

Dr. Anbuganapathi's journey into yoga began in his childhood, nurtured by his school's environment and his mother's collection of Siddha books. He meticulously practiced advanced asanas, often for hours, with like-minded friends. His formal training in Hatha Yoga commenced in 1974 under Swami Thejomayanandha, a direct disciple of Swami Sivanandha from Rishikesh. He further refined his practice and learned Kriyas and "Amuridharana" from Swami Boomanandha and deepened his understanding at Vivekanandha Mut in Kanyakumari (1978).

His dedication led him to travel extensively, including to Rishikesh and Karnataka (1980-1982), to specialize in various superior asanas. From 1985 to 2005, he received advanced instruction in higher-order Yogasanas, Pranayama, Bandha Mudra, and Shatkriyas from the renowned Hatha Yogi Swami Sundaraj of Thuraiur.

With over 50 years of personal yoga practice and teaching since 1972, Dr. Anbuganapathi has pioneered the "Siddha Yoga Therapy" System. This unique approach integrates yogasanas with Siddha medicine to effectively address specific diseases. In 2007, he released 15 therapeutic DVDs targeting chronic ailments. His contribution to yoga also includes "GNAYIRU POTRI ASANAM" (2017), a DVD based on Tamil tradition with Tamil mantras. He has conducted numerous yoga training courses, "VAZHA KATRU KOLVOM" and "MARANAM VELLUM MARMAM," both in India and internationally, including Malaysia and the USA, garnering followers worldwide.

A significant innovation is his specialized pranayama technique, "SANGU THARAI UYIR VALI OONGU VAASI YOGAM," inspired by Siddhar Sivavaakiyar. This technique is designed to strengthen the "Heart and Lung machine" and, when combined with Siddha medicines, is highly effective in treating Asthma, Diabetes, and Cardiac ailments. He is a qualified yoga teacher, holding a TTC (Teacher Training Course) certificate from Shiv Dharshan Yoga Vidhyalaya, Chennai (2017-2018).

Expertise in Varma and Mudras

Beyond yoga, Dr. Anbuganapathi is an expert in Varma treatment, having completed all courses by Dr. Kannan Rajaraman. He holds a PG Diploma in Varma and Thokkanam (massage science) from Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University, Chennai (2018). His knowledge of Mudras has been cultivated since 1972 through extensive study and guidance from various yoga masters.

Media Presence and Global Reach

Dr. Anbuganapathi's profound knowledge has reached a wide audience through various media platforms. He was first introduced to television by Director Visu on SUN TV's "Aratai Arangam" in 2002. Over the past 15 years, he has regularly appeared on JAYA TV, RAJ TV, POTHIGAI TV, and MAKKAL TV. In 2016, he received the rare honor of being invited by FETNA, USA, to speak about the Siddha system. Hundreds of episodes of his talks on herbal health are available on the Valaitamil YouTube Channel.

Pioneering Siddha Research and Therapy

Driven by his personal experience of overcoming peptic ulcer and asthma—conditions often deemed incurable by modern medicine—Dr. Anbuganapathi embarked on a dedicated journey of research and practice in the Siddha system. He is a self-styled traditional Siddha practitioner, dedicated to serving humanity.

His continuous scientific research has led to the design and development of a wide range of proprietary Siddha medicines. As an ardent follower of Hata Yoga Vasiyogam (Pranayama), Bandha, and Mudra, his unique analysis of combining yoga with Siddha medicine culminated in the evolution of the "SIDDHAYOGA" system.

With his Ph.D. in Toxicology, Dr. Anbuganapathi has focused intently on the scientific evaluation and revalidation of the efficacy of this combined Siddha and Yoga approach. He has presented his findings at numerous conferences and seminars and published research articles in scientific journals, demonstrating that the synergy of Siddha medicine and yoga can permanently cure several chronic, non-communicable lifestyle diseases.

He is a registered traditional Siddha medical practitioner enlisted with the Tamilnadu Siddha Medical Council since 1987 (Enlistment No. 192), approved by the Government. In 1990, he founded "SIDDHA YOGA PHARMA," a Siddha medicine manufacturing company, which for over a quarter-century, under the management of Mrs. Thangam Anbuganapathi, has produced 86 proprietary and sastric Siddha medicines in various forms, including syrups, capsules, oils, and creams.

Dr. Anbuganapathi's life and work exemplify a harmonious blend of ancient wisdom and modern scientific rigor, offering a beacon of hope for holistic health and well-being.
